Merging Old School Methods with New Technology to Improve Skills in Cardiac Auscultation

Archana Saxena, MD, Michael J. Barrett, MD, Amit R. Patel, MD, and Alfred A. Bove, MD, PhD

Seminars in Medical Practice is a peer-reviewed online journal dedicated to supporting graduate medical education (GME) in the 6 general competency areas outlined by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The journal’s mission is to help faculty design curricula and assessment approaches and to help trainees understand and apply the specific knowledge, skills, and attributes underlying the ACGME competencies.

Seminars in Medical Practice publishes original articles, reports, and commentaries examining key concepts underlying quality, cost-effective, and ethical health care. Articles targeting trainees employ real-life scenarios and instructional aids to illustrate application to clinical practice. Evidence-Based Practice articles use an actual patient case to examine the skills needed to apply current best evidence to patient care decisions. Professionalism articles use fictionalized real events to explore the professional challenges physicians may face in the current practice environment.

Seminars in Medical Practice also seeks to provide faculty with useful ideas and tools for competency-based education by publishing original reports describing approaches to teaching or assessing professional competence. In this regard, the journal invites medical educators to contribute to its growing archive of peer-reviewed educational materials for competency-
based education by sharing their work. For further information regarding manuscript submission, go to the Information for Authors page.
