A 10-Month-Old Infant with Progressive Abdominal Distension
Answer 3
Magnetic resonance imaging.
Computed tomographic scanning can detect hepatic lesions, but detailed anatomy is much better viewed by magnetic resonance imaging, especially if a vascular lesion is under consideration. Ultrasonography may detect a hepatic mass in utero and in the young infant, but does not provide detailed anatomy. Neither magnetic resonance angiography nor nuclear scanning have a role in the diagnostic imaging of hepatic masses.
